Explore Tech Innovation
Innovation Seminars

A series of seminars will showcase specific industry challenges and opportunities faced by individual Ontario Tech companies. Seminars will also highlight the need for multi- and interdisciplinary approaches to solve specific industry challenges. Industry representatives from partnering companies will deliver the seminars with topics aligned by program streams.

HackTech
On a yearly basis, a 45-hour hackathon will be organized to build solutions for the real-world challenges faced by the Canadian Tech industry. Gender-balanced teams will be established from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. Hackathon teams will showcase their talent, build problem-solving skills, network with industry leaders, and contribute to solving pressing business, social, and environmental problems faced by the industry.

Get Hands-On Industry Experience
Introduction to Tech Industry
Participants will gain essential IT skills and knowledge needed to perform tasks commonly performed by advanced end-users and entry-level IT professionals. Training module content will be provided by academic and industry program participants and collaborators with extensive experience in the Tech sector.
Tech Innovation & Trends
After successful completion of this training module, participants will gain insights on innovative trends in the tech industry. Training module content will be provided by academic and industry program participants and collaborators with extensive business experience in the Tech market.
Tech Sales & Account Management
This training module will provide participants with sales, accounting and business knowledge. Participants will also gain knowledge on business competition, business knowledge and organizational landscape in the Tech sector. Training module content will be provided by academic and industry program participants and collaborators with extensive experience in sales and marketing.
Transferable Skills Development
This training module will provide participants with a wealth of knowledge on transferable skills. These skills include: oral and written communication skills, problem solving skills, analytical skills, effective relationship management and more. Training module content will be provided by academic and industry program participants and collaborators with extensive experiences in the Tech sector.
One CompTIA Certifcation
Participants must successfully complete one CompTia certification course. These certificates include: A+, ITF+ Security+. These certifications will provide participants with hardware, networking, operating systems, security skills etc. Participants will be able to support today’s core technologies from security to cloud to data management and more.
Job Shadowing
Participants will undertake a 2-day job shadow at collaborating Tech companies, which provides a unique opportunity for career exploration in the Canadian Tech sector. By observing and participating in the day-to-day activities of industry mentors, participants will gain insight into their particular career path and make connections between their prior experiences and future employment requirements.
Internships
After successful completion of the training modules, participants will be matched with partnering companies based on their interests, specific background, and career trajectory (minimum 4-month internship). These internships provide Tech work experience and will build upon concepts delivered through the training courses. Interns will gain valuable industry-related skills and training while contributing to the initiatives of their host company.Interns will also work with a program advisor who has experience aligned with the specialty area of the host company. Through regular contact with industry hosts and program advisors, students will be well supported throughout their internships and provided with the appropriate mentorship.
