How to Apply

The TechTalent Accelerator Program consists of two parts: ExploreTech, opens in new window, and ExperienceTech, opens in new window. ExploreTech consists of events and seminars designed to introduce students to the program and the Tech industry. ExploreTech events are open to everyone — no application is required.

ExperienceTech consists of industry-informed courses, and an internship. To participate in ExperienceTech, students must submit an application. On this page, you'll find more information about the application process, timelines and who is eligible to apply.

Undergraduate

To apply for ExperienceTech as an UNDERGRADUATE student, you must: 

  1. Be currently enrolled as a full-time domestic undergraduate student at Ryerson (in any discipline). 
  2. Be in the final year of your full-time degree program, and will be graduating in August 31st, 2022. This must be confirmed with proof of "Application to Graduate" through RAMSS (step-by-step instructions).
  3. Be willing to commit to taking our online self-paced industry-informed training program and take a full-time internship with a Tech company from September 1st, 2022, for a 4-month or 8-month period.
  4. Must be willing to enrol in a free course at Toronto Metropolitan University to maintain your "student" status as you graduate from your degree program - The free course is called the Professional Skills Development Zone (PSDZ) course. This has NO impact on your degree program, and there is NO cost to you.
Graduate

To apply for ExperienceTech as a GRADUATE student, you must: 

  1. Thesis-based
    1. Be currently enrolled as a full-time domestic or international graduate student at Toronto Metropolitan University (in any discipline).
    2. Have completed all of your coursework requirements, research, and will be in the writing phase of your thesis by:
    • August 31st, 2022: Confirm this with your supervisor. You then should be able to take on a full-time IT/Tech internship with a TechTalent company from September 1st, 2022, for a 4-month or 8-month period. 
    • December 31, 2022: Confirm this with your supervisor. You then should be able to take on a full-time IT/Tech internship with a TechTalent company from January 2nd, 2023, for a 4-month or 8-month period.
  2. Course-based: 
    1. Be currently enrolled as a full-time domestic graduate student at Ryerson (in any discipline).
    2. Be in the final year of your full-time degree program, and will be graduating in August 31st, 2022 or December 31st, 2022. This must be confirmed with proof of "Application to Graduate" through RAMSS (step-by-step instructions).
  3. Be willing to commit to taking our online self-paced industry-informed training program and take a full-time internship with a Tech company from September 1st, 2022, for a 4-month or 8-month period.

Alumni

To apply for ExperienceTech as a Ryerson Alumnist, you must:

  1. Have graduated from Ryerson University in April 2021, and show proof of your graduation through the RAMSS Portal (step-by-step instructions).
  2. Be willing to commit to taking our online self-paced industry-informed training program and take a full-time internship with a Tech company from September 1st, 2022, for a 4-month or 8-month period.
  3. Must be willing to enrol in a free course at Ryerson to maintain your "student" status as you graduate from your degree program - The free course is called the Professional Skills Development Zone (PSDZ) course. This has NO impact on your degree program, and there is NO cost to you.

We will provide more details about the program, expectation and you will get a chance to get answers to any questions that you may have.

Step 2: Prepare Application Materials

1. Confirmation of eligibility:

  1. Undergraduate students: Provide confirmation that you will be graduating by August 2022 or December 2022. For this you need to "Application to Graduate" through RAMSS, and attach the confirmation proof in the application form (step-by-step instructions to “Apply to graduate”, opens in new window)
  2. Course-based Graduate students: Provide confirmation that you will be graduating by August 2022 or December 2022. For this you need to "Application to Graduate" through RAMSS, and attach the confirmation proof in the application form (step-by-step instructions to “Apply to graduate”, opens in new window)
  3. Thesis-based Graduate students: For graduate students, have your supervisor confirm in writing (PDF file, use this form; opens in new window) that you will have completed your coursework and research activities related to your thesis by August 2022 or December 2022. Acquire the signatures needed, and save as a pdf file.
  4. Ryerson University Alumni: Provide confirmation that you have graduated in April 2021. For this, please find your confirmation through RAMSS (step-by-step instructions, opens in new window), and attach the confirmation proof in the application form. 

2. Resume/CV

Prepare a resume to submit to industry partners. We recommend that you connect with your Career Centre and have your resume fully reviewed by a Career Consultant. Applications with poor-quality resumes will be rejected. Save this as a “LastName, FirstName.pdf” file.

  a. Contact Information:

 i. Remove specific home address, email, and phone #. Resume circulated widely.

 ii. Only include City, Province (Toronto, ON).

        b. Key Item to include: Project management knowledge/experience

 c. Industry prefers Resumes over CV.   

3. Pitch Yourself! (650 characters)

The purpose of a pitch is to describe yourself and your abilities to prospective employers. You want to give your potential employer a quick sense of who you are and a few strengths that you have to offer.

4. Behavioural Question (1 min video)

In a one minute video, please briefly introduce yourself and answer the following question: If your manager asks you to complete or do a task/project and you don’t know how to do it, what do you do? (please do not edit the video - needs to be a simple recording)

5. Unofficial Transcript

6. CompTIA Course Selection

CompTIA is providing ONE certification COURSE + ONE exam in-kind (at NO cost to program, or student) through our program. For details on each certification, see the CompTIA website, external link, opens in new window. Please select one that would be useful to take in order to be prepared to take on your internship.

Fill out the online application form, attach the materials outlined in Step 1 and submit your application.
